Expressive Suppression Downregulates Negative Emotion for Children: An ERP Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Event related potentials (ERPs), specifically the late positive potential (LPP), are known to be sensitive expressive suppression (ES) in adolescents and adults. Although previous studies examined neural characteristics of ES, few used a sample children. This is first study explore correlates ES We tested provided neurological evidence ERPs 30 healthy children (10 - 12 years old) performing an task were recorded. found that decreased LPPs evoked for condition (ESC) compared negative view (NV) all time windows. Middle windows did not show different between ESC neutral (NEV). These findings demonstrate might effectively downregulate emotional experience The nature utility as specific form emotion regulation discussed.

Race, emotion and trust: an ERP study.
Faces contain certain cues that can be used to infer the intentions of other people and to formulate beliefs about them. The present study explored the extent to which the race of the partners and their emotional facial expressions influenced participants' decision-making in a Trust Game where race and emotional expression had no actual predictive value regarding the partners' reciprocation rat...
متن کاملReappraisal but not suppression downregulates the experience of positive and negative emotion.
The emotion regulation literature is growing exponentially, but there is limited understanding of the comparative strengths of emotion regulation strategies in downregulating positive emotional experiences. The present research made the first systematic investigation examining the consequences of using expressive suppression and cognitive reappraisal strategies to downregulate positive and nega...
متن کاملEmotional face processing and emotion regulation in children: an ERP study.
Emotion regulation is a critical component of healthy development, yet few studies examine neural correlates of emotion regulation in childhood. In the present study, we assessed whether children's neurophysiological responses to salient and socially significant emotional distracters-emotional faces-were related to broader emotion regulation capacities. Emotion regulation was measured as attent...

متن کاملEmotion impairs extrinsic source memory--An ERP study.
Substantial advancements in understanding emotional modulation of item memory notwithstanding, controversies remain as to how emotion influences source memory. Using an emotional extrinsic source memory paradigm combined with remember/know judgments and two key event-related potentials (ERPs)-the FN400 (a frontal potential at 300-500 ms related to familiarity) and the LPC (a later parietal pote...
